Why is mindfulness training useful?

Focus and Productivity

The science shows that meditation increases our ability to concentrate. In meditation we choose where to place our focus and this allows us to be aware of distraction, without losing that focus. Reducing mind wandering allows us to get more done. Being able to focus better, allows us to perform better while feeling less tired.

Improved sleep ensures lower stress levels and higher engagement at work.

Building resilience
Resilience is the process of coping effectively with adversity. When something goes wrong it is easy to blame ourselves and accidentally increase the pain by reliving it over and over again. Mindfulness enables us to notice when we are starting to do this. This increased awareness of what is going on in the mind, allows us to be able to change the patterns of thought and to see events more objectively. This allows us to move on more easily from stressful times.

Mindfulness increases compassion and the ability to forgive, both others and ourselves. If we can forgive our own mistakes more easily, it is more possible to move on from them.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Many of us are experiencing anxiety, depression and some form of imposter syndrome, or a sinking feeling that we are not achieving enough. The mind’s natural tendency to dwell on what has got wrong or what might go wrong, will exacerbate this. Practising mindfulness and meditation enables us to think more clearly and to live more happily. Mindfulness will ensure that we deal better with the difficult times, but can also enjoy the good times.

Mindfulness has been scientifically proven to decrease stress and anxiety and to increase our ability to think and communicate calmly. Mindfulness will also improve sleep and reduce the risk of burnout.
